Culturally Responsive School Leadership Institute Academy (CRSLIA) 2022-23

The Michigan Department of Education is offering an extension of the African American Student Initiative (AASI) for any person in an educational setting. This extends to ISD and local district superintendents, superintendent's cabinet members, local school board members, parents/families/caregivers, teachers, principals/leadership, etc.

The Culturally Responsive School Leadership Institute Academy (CRSLIA) will be a unique experience since the academy will allow for everyone to participate regardless of role/reponsibility in the educational setting. Participants will embark on a journey of understanding and uncovering the historical oppression of their community schools; engage in practices of critical self-reflection; and learn the ways that historical epistemologies have influenced current school and community policies and practices that have marginalized minoritized students and families.

2.5 day VIRTUAL professional learning opportunity
Times of learning will be: 8:30am - 3:30pm, 8:30am - 3:00pm, and 8:30am - 12:00pm
FREE for persons in educational setting who are serving indentified (CSI, TSI, or ATS*) schools
20 SCECH hours available
40% discount for Culturally Responsive School Leadership book by Dr. Muhammad Khalifa
Limited to 50 participants
Engage in learning to equip leaders to shift policies, practices, systems, and structures towards humanizing educational and community spaces for minoritized students and families
Enage in experiences with educators and researchers for implementation of culturally responsive school leadership practices

Persons supporting/serving identified schools may attend at no charge.

Please note: If you are unable to fulfill the attendance obligation for all 2.5 sessions, you must notify MDE staff seven (7) days prior to the start date you selected to avoid a $200.00 cancellation fee.

A $200.00 cancellation fee will be assessed for any registrant unable to fulfill training commitment (extenuating circumstances apply. Please contact MDE staff for more information.)

Cost to attend for non-identified schools is $1,750.00 per person to be invoiced at end of training.
