Welcome to the registration for MDE's book study on Rethinking Disability and Mathematics by Rachel Lambert! We are so excited to have you join us as we explore this transformative book that challenges traditional narratives and opens the door to creating a more inclusive, equitable, and learner-centered approach to mathematics education. Together, we will delve into ways to better understand the experiences of learners with disabilities, and learn practical, research-based strategies to ensure that each and every learner has the opportunity to succeed in math. This study is not just about reading; it's about fostering meaningful conversations and empowering ourselves to implement inclusive practices that make mathematics education accessible and equitable for all. Our goal is to engage teachers, administrators, and educational leaders in meaningful discussions about how to make math instruction responsive to the needs of and joyful for all learners, particularly those with disabilities, including neurodiversity. We are thrilled to embark on this journey with you!
 

The book study will include a combination of synchronous and asynchronous components:

  • Synchronous Meetings: Held monthly, with two options each month to accommodate varying schedules:
    • Tuesdays: 3:45–4:45 PM
    • Thursdays: 7:00–8:00 PM 
  • Asynchronous Work: Participants will be asked to complete reflection activities, assignments related to the assigned readings, and engage in dialogues to allow for deeper engagement and practical application of the content.
 
 Synchronous Meeting Registration:
     -Select only ONE date to participate in each month.
     -Dates and times are listed below for each month. 
     -We will NOT have a synchronous meeting in April to accommodate Spring Break and testing schedules.
     -The date/time of our synchronous meeting in July is still TBD.
     **For your convenience, there are two dates within each month. 
     **Note the content will be the same for each session during the month. 
 
 
Meetings will:
   - be 30 persons or less on each date
   - be held:
           3:45 - 4:45PM Tuesdays
                         OR
           7:00 - 8:00PM on Thursdays
           (select one date/time each month from the list below)
   - be online via Zoom
   - require the text Rethinking Disability and Mathematics by Rachel Lambert (provided by MDE)
   - require you to engage in and complete asynchronous work via Google classroom
 
Participants will be awarded up to 15 SCECHs at the end of the 6 sessions (based on synchronous and asynchronous participation/attendance.)
